Summer Bassin'
With the passing of old man winter
and the arrival of the much welcome warmth and rays of the sun, here's a
few things to keep in mind when braving the waters of the west:
-
ALWAYS have a Coast Guard
approved flotation device on your person when the big motor is
running. Probably should perhaps have one on at all times anyways
even in the thermometer hits the century mark. There are inflatable
vest out there that can be worn comfortably all day even in the hot
sun. Various manufacturers are very comfortable and does not
get in your way of fishing during the day.
-
Always keep a rain suit nearby
(in your boat) ... this may sound silly in the Summer, but you never
know when the wind picks up and those spray from the swells can get
you soaked pretty good.
-
Keep an extra set of clothes (in
a waterproof bag) in the boat ... just in case something unexpected
happens ... like an accidental dive into the cool water?
-
Remember to attach the kill
switch cord to your life-vest whenever the outboard is running.
-
And ALWAYS put on suntan lotion BEFORE you get on the water and
replenish throughout the day.
-
Always to keep plenty of water and a few sports drink in the boat as
well. Keep hydrated or you'll feel the unfortunate
consequences!!
As you can probably tell, I'm an avid
bass fisherman. I've been bass fishing a few years (nearly 20 actually)
and learned much of what I know about bass fishing from my club, the
Bass Classics of Santa Clara Valley.
